Drawings based on Pendennis, [18--].

Pen and ink copies, in an unknown hand, of four of William Makepeace Thackeray's drawings for his novel Pendennis, together with a note by N.W.M. (Nicholas) Pickwoad, an authority on Thackeray. A note on the case for the drawings describes them as being in Thackeray's hand, and attributes the captions for the drawings to Thackeray's daughter, Mrs. Richie. Pickwoad concludes that both attributions are wrong. Instead of being preliminary sketches for the Pendennis illustrations, the drawings are copies of those illustrations after the fact.
